If you are having too much trouble with rising debts and your situation is so bad that you are not even able to pay the minimum on all your debts, then you may opt for a debt solution called debt settlement. This is a process in which your creditors will be willing to settle for a lower amount than what you originally owe. They will settle for 40% to 70% of the debt if you can make a one time payment. I order to settle your debts you may either take help from a debt settlement company or you may also settle your debts all by yourself.

You should understand that if you settle your debts with the help of a debt settlement company, then you will have to pay them a fees for settling your debts. If you do it yourself you will be saving on this amount that you will otherwise have to pay as fees.

If you have decided to settle your debts yourself, then you must try and do it properly. Some steps that you may follow in order to ensure that you manage to settle your debts properly are as follows.

1. Make preparations to negotiate: You will be negotiating with your creditors yourself so it is important that you prepare yourself well before you make the phone call to your creditors. Place all the documents that you will be needing in front of you. Try to also decide how much you will be able to pay incase your creditor agrees to settle your debts.

2. Make the phone call: You are to then call up your creditors and try to explain your situation to them. Be very cordial as you are asking for their favor. You must request them to help you out and also make it clear that you are willing to pay as much as will be possible for you.

3. Send a letter: Send a letter to the department manager to provide them with a basic outline of the way in which you will make the repayment. The details of the repayment such as the dates on which you wish to make the payments all have to be specified in this letter.

These are the steps that you need to follow in order to ensure that your debts are settled properly.
